The 31st of January has certainly been a big date for Britain as the official date of Brexit, but apparently the 31st of January is the date that many of us decide that we just can’t take any more of our old job and that its time for a change. A UK study reveals that the 31st is the most popular day of the year to quit a job (The Squiz).
As recruiters we certainly see an upswing in candidates wanting to get together to discuss their employment options. We see it as a bit of a honeymoon period. Often it can be the only time of year you can snag the very unicorn that you have been chasing all year as all the conditions for change are good: achievements ticked off for a calendar year, Xmas holiday commitments done and dusted, Xmas bonus paid out and time to reflect upon the year ahead.
This restlessness and ultimately movement, drives job activity, while we are kept busy back filling roles where people have acted on their New Year’s resolution. Its that perfect time of year where we can find the candidates, we sometimes cannot all year long and for whom, we finally have the perfect job. All bodes well for a great start the New Year…in this Chinese Year of the Rat. Happy New Year and happy new job hunting!
